A lecturer at the faculty of law, university of ilorin, dr folorunsho hussein has charged students to turn away from cultism and other social-vices in order to excel in their academic pursuit.
The don stated this, last thursday, during the sensitisation programme on career choice organised for junior secondary school students by the ilorin emirate students at iedpu secretariat, ilorin, the kwara state capital.
He said joining cultism is like signing ones death warrant. He added that youths should also avoid engaging in smoking and drug abuse.
Hussein however tasked the present administration in the state to improve the funding of education.
“students join cultism and also partake in other criminal acts because of improper training and lack of basic education.
“without standard educational facilities and the right foundation, career choosing will just be in vain. Government should look into the education sector for the sake of our future leaders,” he said.
In his remarks, another keynote speaker, mallam muhammed shuaib urged the students to make good career choice adding that they must attend to their studies seriously in order to become successful in life.
He said, “before you make a career choice, you need to know your mental strength and ability. Also, you must consider seriously, your areas of weakness. In addition, you must seek information on your career choice from learned people in the society,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the president of ilorin emirate students, ahmad amasa, said the programme was targeted at helping youths to make good career choice and how to go about achieving academic excellence.
