The Magistrate court sitting in Ilorin the Kwara State capital has
remanded one Ndubisi Ebuka, Adebayo Rafiu, Akeem Taiwo and Mukaila
Ibrahim over shop breaking and armed robbery in Ilorin on Tuesday.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that the case was
handed over to the Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARS) by the Odota
community vigilante group led by one Onagun Rasheed .
It further stated that while on community patrol along Odota on 11th
September, 2019 at about 0115 hrs, one Ndubisi Ebuka was accosted with
a bag containing hot drinks, the sum of N4,000, some packs of
cigarettes and weed suspected to be India Hemps.Ebuka led the
vigilante to the hideout of the other gang members where Rafiu, Taiwo
and Ibrahim were arrested.
The FIR further revealed that investigation conducted at the SARS
revealed that the hoodlums had committed other crimes before now which
include the vandalisation of a shop belonging to one Bukola Adebisi
where they carted away goods worth thousands of naira. Also, on the
2nd September, 2019 the shop of one Adegun Lateef who deals in rice
and flour were broken into where goods worth millions of naira were
carted away.
Investigation at the SARS office further revealed that one Engr Sesan
Ogunyemi of Odota/Asa Dam area, Ilorin equally reported on the 4th
September, 2019 that in his house was robbed. Ogunyemi was to identify
Ebuka as a member of the gang.
They were dragged before magistrate Abimbola Abioye for criminal
conspiracy, belonging to gang of thieves, house and shop breaking at
night and armed robbery contrary to section 97,306,356 and section
1(2)if robbery and fire arm (special provision) act, cap R11 Law of
the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The prosecutor Adewumi Johnson said investigation is still ongoing and
prayed for another date.
He said the FIR is backed up with a motion experte of 12 paragraphs
deposed to by one Sergeant Idowu Gbolahan. He said a copy of the case
file has been sent to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
In his short rulling Abioye ordered remand of the defendants in
Federal prison custody while the case has been adjourned to 9th
October, 2019.
