The Director General of Kwara State Bureau of Lands, Alhaji Ibrahim Salman has warned members of the public to confirm authenticity of any customary land they intend to acquire from the bureau before making any transaction.
Salman made this known during an interview with National Pilot in his office on Monday adding that several individuals had lost millions to fake land owners in the state.
“Some people are in the habit of selling lands that did not belong to them to another party. Others try to transfer loss to unsuspecting members of the public despite being informed that a portion of land they put up for sale has problem.
“When people fall victim of such, what we do is to call the parties involved to intervene in the matter. However, it is advisable that before anyone go into transaction with any land owner they should come to the Bureau of Lands for advice and we will diligently check on the land.”Speaking further, the DG urged residents of the state to patronise the Bureau of Land, adding that it is cheaper than approaching customary land owners.
Salman added that some of the lands allocated by the bureau have been put into good use to build business and residential apartments and also for farming.
“The Bureau of Lands has been advising and assisting the government in the administration of land in Kwara State. The agency acquired land for new Nigeria farmers in Shonga, at Malete, Lafiagi and Flour Mills at Asomu axis, Malete. We also have a lot of applications that we are processing like Dangote Sugar refineries along Patigi among others.”
He added that the bureau in addition generates revenue for the state government to provide infrastructure and amenities for residents.
