The people of Ago-Oja Community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State has cried out over the deplorable road in the community.
The people also appealed to the state government as a matter of urgency effect the repair of the collapsed bridge that leads to the town.
Speaking to National Pilot, the Baale of Ago-Oja, Mallam Dauda Salaudeen stressed the need for government to pay attention to the deplorable state of the road because of its economic importance.
“This road is plied by trucks, most especially those belonging to Olam Industry. It is a connecting road to Oyo State and our farmers convey their produce to the market via this road. Hence, the need for its urgent rehabilitation.”
He lamented that the road had been neglected by successive administrations in the state.
While commending the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over the appointment of one of the sons of the community, Hon. Omotosho Toheeb as a Commissioner, he appealed for economic empowerment of youths in the area .
Speaking in the same vein, the community’s Youth Chairman, Mr. Saad Ejiwunmi decried the abandonment of the road by successive governments in the state.
“We have been clamouring for the repair in order to prevent possible accident on that road. The road is getting worse by the day which is further escalated by rain. We have reached out to government and also the elected representatives from our community, but they all left us to our fate, because most of the projects in our community are done through self- help,” he lamented.
On his part, a businessman, Chief George Sunday, called on the state government and Senator representing Kwara Central, Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe not to abandon the community in the area of infrastructural development.
“It is quite unfortunate that prominent people from this community and neighbouring towns are showing indifference to our plight. Prominent people like the state Attorney-General, Salman Jawondo, Hon. Yekeen Alajagusi, the Honourable member representing the State at the House of Assembly, Hon. Aliyu Wahab Opakunle, Alhaji Wahab Eleja and many others.
Alhaji Isiaka Akano, the Chairman of the Community decried the negative impact of the collapsed bridge on the commerce and economic life of people of the community, urging government to take drastic step at bringing to an end challenges posed by the bad road.
