The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu has recalled what he described as his most memorable day in office.
The rector, whose two-term tenure will end on June 22, 2019, said he broke down in tears day the school received special high impact project intervention from the Tertiary Education Fund (TETFUND), last year.
He revealed this during the iftar organised by management of the school for journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State, recently.
TETFUND sponsors one ‘special high impact’ project in a tertiary institution selected based on merit, periodically and only few varsities and polytechnics across the country have so far benefited.
Kwara Polytechnic is the only polytechnic that was awarded the high impact project meant for infrastructural development in Nigeria for the 2018/2019 intervention programme.
According to him, the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed was also elated when he received news of the milestone, which will further boost infrastructural development of the institution.
“When the Executive Secretary of TETFUND informed me that our institution has been selected for the high impact project, myself and the registrar who was there with me cried (for joy).
“Out of all the polytechnics in Nigeria only Kwara Polytechnics was picked. Even, the Governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed was happy about it and he told me that l’ll be leaving legacy for life,”the rector added.
He explained that the TETFUND intervention fund is meant for the construction of world class Institute of Technology (IoT) complex for the institution.
The rector further said that construction work has begun on the project, which will accommodate seven engineering departments of the polytechnic.
With the project, he further explained that the school management will be able to relocate the IoT to the school’s permanent site, a feat which he said been futile for successive administrations.
Elelu, however, enumerated his achievements in office to include introduction of conference marking, which the NBTE has encouraged other Polytechnics to adopt; introduction and accreditation of new courses and establishment of Centre for Entrepreneurship Development.
