A multi-sports festival, to be competed by five Districts of Offa Local Government of Offa, tagged ‘Ebenezery Easter Games Offa 2018 has been scheduled to run between March 28 to 31, 2018 in the ancient city.
The festival is being sponsored by Prince Soji Olagunju, the Chairman of Ebenezery Group, who is also the sponsor of the annual Prince Michael Bolarinwa Olagunju and Arinola Alagunju memorial soccer competitions in Offa, for the past 11 years.
While inaugurating the Main Organising Committee for the Games on Saturday in Offa, the sponsor, Prince Olagunju said that the festival was introduced as part of efforts to discover and develop talents in sports in the Local Government.
He said that the Games will go beyond the local government in the nearest future.
Prince Olagunju charged members of the Committee to deliver a standard event.
Among the events already selected to feature in the maiden edition of the festival are athletics (100m, 200m , 400m, 800m, 1500m, 4 x100m, and invitation relay), half marathon, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
The five Districts that will compete are Essa, Ojomu, Balogun, Shawo and Igbo Idun.
The concept was to use the multi-sports festival to encourage the youths to become leaders and professionals through sports, to foster peace, unity and friendship among youths, and to bring the best from the community to national limelight.
The Organising Committee has former chairman of the local government and a legal luminary, Barrister Segun Olawoyin as Chairman.
Others are the former Speciall Assistant, Sports matters to Kwara Governor, Hon. Jare Olatundun, Mr Yemi Olaboye Itafa, Mr Niyi Tinuoye, Alhaji Musbau Olaniyi (Printbest), Prince Kayode Afolabi, Mr Muhyiddin Oladipo, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal, Jimoh Bashir and Bunmi Adedoyin.
In his response on behalf of the Committee after the inauguration, Barrister Segun Olawoyin promised to work hard with professionals in delivering a great festival.
